3rd Cornet - Gillian Garvie
Personal Info

Gillian Garvie, 3rd cornet, lives in Dunfermline and works in Edinburgh for the Scottish Government.

Gillian began playing cornet in Primary 5 under the instruction of John Dickson (conductor of St David’s Brass). She joined St David's High School Band aged 12 and won the first contest she played in – the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships in 1986, and went on to compete in the National Youth Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall later that year. As well as playing in the youth band, Gillian was a member of Dalkeith Burgh Band which went on to become Dalkeith and Monktonhall. She joined Cowdenbeath band in 1996 and was part of the original Kingdom Brass line up when the band was formed in 1999.

Favourite Performance

Kingdom's performance of Les Preludes in Lucerne was amazing – what a reception! Others include the final night of the Germany tour in 2006 playing to a packed house in Munich and the band's 10th Anniversary Concert with guest soloist, Les Neish.
